Training and Guidance

Dyslexia Smart North

Dyslexia Smart North offers training and guidance on dyslexia and neurodiversity to the workplace, to individuals, and to parents and carers.

Sessions delivered to the workplace aim to develop knowledge and understanding of dyslexia and neurodivergence and how individuals can thrive in the work environment. Sessions aim to debunk the misconceptions and provide insight and awareness. More than one in ten employees will be dyslexic or neurodivergent and having support in the workplace is essential. The session also covers how integral the skills of those employees are to businesses, such as the recognition by GCHQ of pattern recognition, creative problem solving, attention to detail, and seeing the bigger picture, as well as good interpersonal skills. My work as a senior disability adviser at a Russel Group University means that I have a thorough knowledge of the Equality Act 2010 and how companies can best comply with this law.

Sessions can also be tailored to individual employees who are dyslexic or neurodivergent and would like to look at strategies to support them in their job role. This can also be useful when a particular job role has changed and new challenges are introduced which can be particularly stressful.

Parents and carers can arrange a session on understanding and developing their awareness of the impacts of dyslexia, specific learning difficulties and/ or ADHD in order to support their child.
